Get the Hurd

LiveCD

We provide a LiveCD for Arch Hurd, which can be used to install Arch Hurd to your computer or virtual machine. However, like Arch Hurd itself, the LiveCD is a bit unstable and so is not the most reliable way to install Arch Hurd. If you are experiencing difficulties with the LiveCD, consider using the alternate method and installing from within a GNU/Linux system by using pacman, the Arch Linux package manager.

To start download the LiveCD, preferably via LinuxTracker, and then read the installation guide.

The current version of the LiveCD was assembled on 2010-09-17. The HTTP download is spread across our mirrors, all praise the generosity of the mirror admins!

Alternate Installation

If you are having difficulty with the LiveCD, there is an alternate installation method which installs Arch Hurd using pacman; currently this guide covers qemu images and hard drives however, with a little tweaking, a nearly identical method can be used to create your own LiveCD with a custom set of packages, if you so desire.

You should use this method if you are having difficulty booting or using the LiveCD, or need to install Arch Hurd in a way that the installer does not offer. However, note that if you are having difficulty booting the LiveCD you may experience similar difficulty when booting Arch Hurd itself; that is, if the LiveCD doesn't work on your computer, Arch Hurd might or might not, but if the LiveCD does work, Arch Hurd definitely will.
